My LF Sonata Turns Ten

My 2017 Hyundai LF Sonata e-VGT is now in its tenth year — and it is still my first and only vehicle to date.

Parked on the Sookmyung Women's University campus. Still shiny.

It has been much more than a personal car, though. This is the very vehicle from which the X-CANIDS dataset was collected — the in-vehicle CAN dataset we released alongside the X-CANIDS paper in IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology. The dataset has since become well known in the automotive security community and continues to be cited by researchers around the world.

A recent example (CSCWD 2026): another research group describing the X-CANIDS dataset — CAN messages recorded from this very car.

Ten years in, it still runs fine — and yes, it is still shiny. ;-)
